T-Junctions and Corner Plots in Vastu: Reading the Roads
T-junctions, corner plots and the roads around you
Estate agents have their own name for a house at the end of a road, and it is rarely a compliment. Vastu is less sweeping. It asks where exactly the road points, and on which side of the plot the other roads run.
Roads alongside the plot
| Roads | Verdict | Correction, where needed |
|---|---|---|
| On one side, any side | Good | None, provided the gate on that side is on a good position |
| North and east | Good | None |
| East and south | Good | Keep heavy construction out of the south-east, and lay a copper strip along the boundary there |
| West and north | Good | Keep construction in the north-west light, and keep white lights on there |
| South and west | Avoid | Build the south-west corner higher and heavier than the rest, and set a brass or lead strip into the boundary there |
| Three sides, or all four | Good | Good where no corner is cut. If a road strikes from the south-west or the north-west, set a metal strip along that boundary or a convex mirror facing the road |
Corner plots
| Corner | Verdict | What the practice asks |
|---|---|---|
| North-east | Good | Nothing |
| South-east | Good | Keep heavy construction out of the south-east, with a copper strip along that boundary |
| North-west | Good | Keep construction there light, with white lights on |
| South-west | Avoid | Build that corner higher and heavier than the rest, with a brass or lead strip along the boundary |
The south-west is the one corner Vastu wants enclosed and heavy, which is why a plot open to roads on that corner is the only one marked down.
T-junctions
A T-junction is read by the position the road points at, using the same thirty-two positions as the main door, counted clockwise from the north-west corner. The method is in main door Vastu and the 32 entrance positions.
| A road striking | Verdict |
|---|---|
| N3, N4, N5 | Good |
| E3, E4 | Good |
| S3, S4 | Good |
| W3, W4 | Good |
| N8, E1 (north-east) | Avoid |
| E6, E7, E8, S1, S2 (east-south-east to south-south-east) | Avoid |
| S6, S7, S8, W1 (south-south-west and south-west) | Avoid |
| W6, W7, W8 (west-north-west and north-west) | Avoid |
Every other position is neutral.
The correction for a T-junction
- Fix a convex mirror on the outer wall facing the road, facing outwards, so that it looks straight back down the road.
- Set the zone's metal strip into the threshold of the gate on that side.
The metal follows the zone the road strikes: aluminium from north-north-west round to east-north-east, brass in the east, copper from east-south-east round to the south, brass in the south-south-west and south-west, and stainless steel from west-south-west round to the north-west.
Where this sits in the whole picture
The plot is read before the house. In a flat, there is often no plot to speak of and this section of a reading is short. In a detached house on its own land it can be the first correction on the list. For the zone on the north-west side of a plot, read the north-west zone.
