Where to Place Crystals at Home, by Vastu Zone
Where to place crystals in your home, by Vastu zone
This is the post that connects the consultancy side of this site to the shop, so it should start with the thing that costs us money to say.
You probably do not need to buy anything
Most Vastu corrections are placement, colour, material and light. None of them requires a purchase.
If your north-east corner is full of boxes, the correction is to remove the boxes. Putting an amethyst on top of the boxes is not a smaller version of the same correction; it is not the correction at all.
So the order is always:
- Clear the zone
- Light the zone
- Arrange the zone — move the weight, change the use
- Then, if a specific material in a specific zone is genuinely the simplest way to finish the job, consider an object
Most households get most of the available benefit at step one. We would rather say that plainly than sell you a stone you will put in a drawer.
With that established, here is how placement actually works.
The placement table
| Zone | Element | Stones traditionally used | Height | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| North-east | Water | Amethyst, clear quartz, selenite | Low, below waist | The zone wants light and openness. Clear and pale stones, placed low, do not fight it |
| North | Water | Clear quartz, green aventurine | Low to mid | Clarity and reserve. Avoid anything heavy or dark here |
| East | Air | Clear quartz | Mid | Beginnings. Keep it uncomplicated |
| South-east | Fire | Carnelian, red jasper, warm stones | Mid | The fire zone takes warm colour naturally |
| South | Fire | Red jasper, hematite | Low | Weight begins here, moving toward the south-west |
| South-west | Earth | Black tourmaline, smoky quartz, hematite | Low, on the floor or close to it | The zone wants mass. Dense, dark, grounded stones belong here more than anywhere |
| West | Earth | Smoky quartz, tiger's eye | Low to mid | Stability, settling |
| North-west · Vayu | Air | Selenite, clear quartz | Mid | Movement and air. Keep it light |
| Centre · Brahmasthan | — | Nothing, ideally | — | The centre should stay as clear as the building allows |
Two rules do more work than the whole table:
Light stones high and north-east. Heavy stones low and south-west. If you remember nothing else, that is the axis the system is arranged along.
Nothing in the centre. The Brahmasthan wants to be empty. A display of stones in the middle of the plan is working against the one instruction that zone gives.
The things people get wrong
Buying the stone before clearing the corner. Covered above, and it is the most common one by a distance.
Putting everything in one place. A shelf of twelve stones together is a collection, not a placement. The whole logic is one stone, one zone, one reason.
Too high. Most stones belong low. The instinct is to put a beautiful object at eye level where it can be seen, and that instinct is usually wrong for the zone. Yantras are the exception — those go at or above eye level, in the north.
Direct sunlight on amethyst. Amethyst fades in sun and the fade does not come back. A windowsill in the south is the worst place for the most commonly bought stone.
Water on the wrong stones. Black tourmaline and selenite should not be rinsed. See the cleansing section below.
Keeping them
Placement is half of it. The other half is maintenance, and a neglected stone in a dusty corner is doing less than no stone at all.
| Material | Method | How often | Never |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amethyst | Cold running water, then moonlight | Monthly, full moon | Salt water, direct sun |
| Clear quartz | Running water or a dry salt bed | Monthly | — |
| Black tourmaline | Dry salt bed, four hours | Monthly | Water |
| Selenite | Dry cloth only | Fortnightly | Water of any kind |
| Green aventurine | Dry cloth, quarterly rinse | Weekly wipe | Direct sun |
| Copper | Dry cloth; lemon and salt restore | Weekly / quarterly | Lacquer |
| Brass | Dry cloth; lemon and salt restore | Weekly / twice yearly | Humid rooms |
The full routine, including what to do if you miss a month, is in how to cleanse crystals, and how often.
If you want one stone
The question we are asked most often, so: amethyst, placed low in a cleared north-east.
Not because it is the most powerful — that is not a claim we make — but because the north-east is the zone most commonly wrong in British homes, it is the zone whose correction is free, and a stone there marks a corner you have actually dealt with rather than one you have decorated.
Clear the corner first. If a month later the corner has stayed clear, then the stone has something to mark.
Where to go next
If you have not taken your building's bearing, nothing above is actionable yet — you need to know which corner is the north-east before you can clear it. The Direction Finder does it free, from a satellite image, in about a minute.
Then read the sixteen Vastu zones for what each zone is for, and come back to this table once you know which of yours are actually carrying the wrong things.
Book a residential Vastu consultation. Every zone scored, with a written schedule. Objects appear in a plan only when they are genuinely the simplest way to finish a correction.
